about

This is a selection of songs that I produced and recorded as Arnaud Lazlaud between 1995 and 1999, with the occasional help of a few friends and collaborators. The tracks were originally released as part of two ultra-limited (50 copies or so) edition CD-R EPs named "Apéritif de luxe" and "Olives Noires".

Xavier Paradis: vocals, synths, sampling & found sounds, programming.

Jean-Philippe Jobin: guitar on Les Invisibles, mixing assistant on Le Malade-Roi, found sound assistant.

Félix-Antoine Bérubé: multi-track recording and mixing assistant on Allumeuses F-X.

Produced, recorded and mixed in Quebec City (Canada), in a basement under several meters of snow, between 1995 and early 2000.

--------------

Some of the gear used back then: Roland JUNO-106, Roland MKS-50, Akai AX-60, MaxiKorg 800dv, Realistic/MOOG MG-1, Yamaha CS01, Yamaha DX-27, Yamaha A3000 sampler, Roland Space Echo RE-201, Vestax Digital Delay. I could not afford a complete multi-track recording solution so in most cases the production and mixing involved syncing up a 4-track cassette recorder (and by the end one of these early digital 8-track machines, thanks to a friend) to a primitive 486 computer that struggled to spit out a few MIDI notes and some time-code, then doing our best to mix all of this in real-time to a DAT master tape deck.

Arnaud Lazlaud Montreal, Québec

Synthpop sans espoir, folklore juste impossible, noyé sous la neige, trop tard ou trop tôt... enfin pas aujourd'hui.

(Some nice people have been asking me over the years to make some of my early recordings (made under the moniker Arnaud Lazlaud and produced between 1995 and 1999) available online.

I'm not considering reissuing everything from that era yet, but here's a selection.)
